East Jaintia Hills district police has seized a huge cache of explosive materials weighing around 1525 kgs and arrested six people involved in transporting and supplying them.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a bolero bearing Assam registration at Kongong under Lad Rymbai PS on Wednesday night at around 7 pm.
Following a search 250 kgs of explosives (2000 gelatin sticks), 1000 live detonators packed in 10 cartons were recovered, East Jaintia Hills district SP Deepak Kumar Palecha said.
He said two persons occupying the vehicle were arrested and based on their lead four more persons were arrested from Umpleng, Mokympad and 5 Kilo, who are suspected to be involved in supplying the explosives.
Palecha said, the arrested persons also led the police team to a concealed place at 5 Kilo under Khliehriat PS from where the explosives were suspected to have been loaded to the bolero.
From the place, 51 cartons loaded with approximately 1275 Kgs of explosive (10200 gelatine sticks) , 5000 live detonators and eight rolls cordtex (fuse) suspected to be of the same kind used in the recent Soo Kilo blast were seized, the SP said.
“Altogether approximately 1525 kgs of explosive were seized in the said operation and a case under Explosives Act and other relevant sections of law has been registered while investigation is on,” he added.
