Amid the Covid-19 surge in the State, this year’s HSSLC examinations conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) began on Friday.
All the authorities concerned and the students have adhered to the Covid-19 protocol. The students are allowed to enter the school premises only after sanitising their hands. Social distancing norms are being followed and their thermal temperature is being checked.
A total of 36,685 candidates from arts, science and commerce streams and elementary school teachers are appearing for the HSSLC exams. In the arts stream there are 26,402 candidates, with 3,761 in science and 2,336 in commerce. A total of 4,186 elementary school teachers are appearing as well.
Shillong alone has 10,925 candidates spread across 30 examination centres. State-wide, there are 104 centres – 65 in Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills and 39 in Garo Hills.
There are 12 centres – eight in Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills, four in Garo Hills – for the elementary school teachers.
Meanwhile, MBOSE in a letter to all the deputy commissioners today informed that students who fail to sit for the present board examination, if tested Covid-19 positive, can re-take the examination provided they provide the RT-PCR test report.
If a student is among the high risk contacts, MBOSE said, a test report from appropriate medical authorities has to be produced. Candidates who belong to containment zones and are restricted from appearing the examination have to also submit documents from appropriate authority, the board added.
