The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) today put on a brave face following yesterday’s resignations of nearly 20 office bearers.
Yesterday the president of HSPDP youth wing, Sandondor Ryntathiang, and 18 other post-holding members resigned with the intention of joining the Voice of the People Party (VPP).
HSPDP president KP Pangniang today told Highland Post that Ryntathiang had already expressed a desire to leave the party following the Sohiong by-election in May and there are no hard feelings towards him.
According to Pangniang, Ryntathiang made it clear that he wanted to contest next year’s KHADC polls on a VPP ticket as the HSPDP has lost its strength in Sohiong following the defection before the state elections this year by then MLA Samlin Malngiang. In the end, it was the United Democratic Party that won the Sohiong vote.
“We had asked him to provide us his resignation in writing and he has done so. We have released him with no hard feelings at all and we are happy that he got some platform from our party and we hope the other party he will be joining welcomes him wholeheartedly,” Pangniang said.
According to the party president, Ryntathiang had been drawn to the VPP for quite some time, even attending VPP meetings while running on the HSPDP ticket for the Sohiong poll. Ryntathiang only won a measly 62 votes in the election, coming second from last.
He also said that the HSPDP has not lost anything with Ryntathiang’s resignation since it had already decided to reorganise its youth wing. Those who left the party with Ryntathiang “had not contributed much” to the HSPDP and the party remain strong, he added.
