The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) will work with 18 other groups in the country that are campaigning for separate states, as it is doing for the Khas-Jaintia Hills.
The HSPDP has formed a coordination committee to work with the Garo State Movement Committee (GSMC) to press for the division of Meghalaya into separate Khasi-Jaintia and Garo states.
“This objective of ours will not end only in our state but we will work together with 18 other groups from across the country that have a similar movement,” HSPDP president KP Pangniang told reporters after the party’s central executive committee meeting.
“For Garoland we will support them (the GSMC) and for Khasi-Jaintia state they will support us. Memorandums to be sent to the central government will also be jointly signed by us and also we will go together to Delhi,” the HSPDP president said.
On the border, the committee will coordinate to clearly identify the boundary between the two proposed states, which will follow the district borders.
