The Office of the District Horticulture Officer, East Jaintia Hills District today organised a district level exhibition on horticultural crops at its office premises in Khliehriat.
Director of Horticulture, D. Sohtun who attended the programme as the chief guest highlighted on the aims and objectives of the exhibition and said that the exhibition not only serves as a platform where farmers of the district can showcase their agricultural products but also acts as a forum for mutual exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences between farmers from various parts of the district who grow different varieties of crops.
She also encouraged farmers present on the occasion to collaborate among themselves for enhanced productivity of agricultural products and also urged them to make use of every support system provided by the government in their day-to-day agricultural and horticultural endeavours.
Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash Baranwal urged the horticulture and agriculture officers to provide farmers of the district with training on organic farming as also on the plantation of different types of crops suitable to weather conditions of the region to enable farmers to further enhance their income.
Baranwal also expressed satisfaction on seeing the progress of mushroom cultivation in the district while urging the concerned departments to provide adequate training to farmers of the district even as he further stated that mushroom cultivation also serves as a viable alternative in raising the income of the people engaged with the profession.
