Arrested Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) cadre Storgy Lyngdoh was today remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Storgy was arrested from his house at Mawlynrei, Shillong on March 2 few days after he came from Bangladesh.
According to police Storgy had served demand notes to extort money for the HNLC leading to widespread scare and fear psychosis to a number of businessmen of Shillong.
The charges against the cadre are related to his alleged involvement with the banned militant organization, unlawful activities, terrorist activities, fundraising, and conspiracy respectively.
Additionally, he also faces charges under various sections of the IPC including 120B (criminal conspiracy), 506 and 507 (criminal intimidation), 384 (extortion), and 511 (attempting to commit offenses punishable with imprisonment).
Storgy is an active member of the HNLC with a close link to the self-styled deputy commander-in-chief of the HNLC. He was also the PSO of A. Hazarika alias Manbhalang Jyrwa, the former self-styled vice chairman of HNLC.
He was part of the HNLC’s delegation which participated in the peace talks with the government.
