As a mark of protest against the border pact inked between Meghalaya and Assam, the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) today unveiled two sign boards at Saphai village in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
The signboards written, “Welcome to Meghalaya Jaiñtia Hills District” and “Hynñiewtrep Territory” were put up by the organisation with the support of the Saphai dorbar shnong.
HITO president Donbok Dkhar stated that the organisation will not compromise with the give and take policy adopted by both the state governments, unless the people in the border villages are satisfied with the settlement.
He stated that the people’s opinion was ignored by the MDA government and said that the move of the MDA government was an election-driven propaganda of the National People’s Party and its coalition partners.
Headman of Saphai, Valintine Gino Synnah lauded the organisation and was optimistic that the village could see a change in the future as the land was lying unprotected and neglected.
