Shillong, Dec 4: Members of the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO), Southern Border Area, led by Secretary Risingstar Marwein, halted the construction of a bridge on Ranikor Road, citing non-compliance with approved specifications.
The bridge, funded by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and overseen by the Executive Engineer, PWD Ranikor Division, was found to be using only 8mm iron rods for its pillars, contrary to the approved drawings.
Marwein expressed concerns questioning how the structure could withstand heavy trucks passing daily.
HITO was informed that the Ministry had instructed the use of 8mm rods, and the site drawing was a “rough sketch,” not an official approval from the Executive Engineer’s office.
