The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO), Jowai and Thadlaskeiñ members detected three trucks said to carry illegal at a refilling centre near Mukhla-Khliehtyrshi in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
According to HITO Jowai general secretary Izameyoo Susngi the trucks have been handed to police at Ummulong and a FIR was lodged last night.
The inspection carried out by the group was to prove that coal trucks operating illegally are travelling freely within Meghalaya.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had recently denied that there was any illegal coal transportation and asked for proof over who the so-called high level individuals are who reportedly control the trade.
The group said construction of party offices by certain political parties was from the collection made through “entry” made by the “high levels.”
“We are not against any coal owners or coal laden trucks but against the MDA government to free the state from corruption,” HITO said.
