The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has once again written to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma urging him to relax the age limit for police recruits.
The government had raised the eligibility age from 27 to 32 years (32 to 37 for Scheduled Tribes), for recruitment in various posts in different departments of the government but not the police force. This was because the government felt that junior policemen and women have a physically demanding job and it would thus not be prudent to raise the age limit.
Despite this being clearly stated by the state government when it raised the age eligibility in other departments, HITO and other pressure groups and even opposition politicians seem determined to raise the issue again and again.
