The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has constituted a High-Level Task Force on Investment Promotion in North East, aimed at accelerating economic development in the region.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha was appointed as the Convener of the task force with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang along with the Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia as members.
The decision was made during the 72nd Plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held on December 21, 2024, in Agartala, Tripura.
As per the Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, the Task Force will submit its report within six months.
The focus will be on assessing the investment ecosystem by reviewing existing policies, incentives, and infrastructure to identify gaps and opportunities.
Besides developing a strategic roadmap to position the North East as a preferred investment destination for priority sectors, the Task Force will identify high-potential sectors and regions by creating focused investment clusters for specific industries.
The Task Force will also focus on encouraging private sector participation and forging global partnerships and to recommend policy reforms by enhancing the ease of doing business and addressing investor concerns, as well as to implement sectoral growth plans for sustainable development.
