Shillong, Nov 1: The Department of Social Work (PG and UG) of St. Edmund’s College organised a general health camp at Lumshyrmit, Mihmyntdu, in West Jaintia Hills District.
The camp was held in collaboration with SURE (Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment), Nangbah PHC, District Mental Health Programme, Jowai, Civil Hospital, Ialong, DM&HO, Jowai, and Mission Nethralaya Eye Care Centre, Shillong yesterday.
A total of 116 residents availed various healthcare services including general medical check-ups, oral cancer screening, blood pressure and sugar monitoring, eye examinations, blood and HIV testing, as well as mental health counselling.
The programme also featured awareness sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and lifestyle-related diseases. Individuals requiring further medical care were referred to nearby health facilities.
The initiative aimed to promote preventive healthcare and enhance community well-being by bringing essential health services closer to rural populations. Organisers underscored the importance of accessible and integrated healthcare, particularly for underserved communities, and commended the collaborative effort among medical institutions and the college.
