Shillong, Jan 12: A delegation of the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong, Ri-Bhoi District, led by chairman BB Makdoh and general secretary PB Sylliang, with with officials from the district administration today to raise concerns over water shortages, pending MGNREGA payments, road traffic accidents and anti-social activities.
The delegation met with Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad and Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal.
The representatives of the headmen body raised concerns over acute drinking water shortage in several villages despite Jal Jeevan Mission coverage and sought release of pending MGNREGA funds while criticising the central government’s move to replace MGNREGA with the VB-G RAM G Act 2025.
The meeting with the SP focused on strengthening peace and security, with village elders urging continued checking drives to reduce road accidents and curb anti-social activities, like drug abuse. The SP assured cooperation and spoke of strengthening Village Defence Parties (VDPs)
