Shillong, Dec 8: A headmaster at the Mon Rongsna Government LP School in South Garo Hills district has not been regular to the school for the last ten years, but has been drawing a salary.
Headring M Marak remained absent from school since 2015 that has also led drop outs among students.
A complaint was submitted to the Sub Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) today by social activist Greneth M Sangma, who earlier met members of the school managing committee and villagers, including Gentle M Sangma, President of the Mon Rongsna Government LP School.
Demanding immediate termination of the headmaster, Greneth said, “He has neglected his responsibilities, absconded from school, and received his salary for a decade.”
He stated that there were multiple complaints, an RTI submission, and a suspension followed by reinstatement, yet he continues to flout his duties.
According to the managing committee, many complaints have been made against the absence of the headmaster but no action was taken against him.
Greneth said the failure of the Sub Inspector of Schools to inspect despite an order by the SDSEO raises concerns about complicity and corruption.
“This is seriously damaging the children’s minds and killing their future, as they’ve lost their education, affecting not only themselves but also the society, the nation, and especially the Garo community,” he said.
He further sought action against the Sub Inspector of School for dereliction of duty and thorough investigation into the headmaster and termination within 15 days as per education norms and service rules.
