Khliehriat, Sep 17 : The Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) East Jaiñtia Hills district has criticised Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for taking up the issue for creation of a separate home state for the Gorkhas of North Bengal region.
“Instead of taking up issues concerning people at home like demand for the inner line permit to protect the people from influx he has raised the demand for Gorkhaland,” HANM district general secretary Shaniahlang Suchen said in a statement today.
Stating that the demand raised by the Chief Minister is indifference Suchen said, “He must step down because he has no responsibility towards the state and its people who loosing land because these people.”
Recently, the Chief Minister has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to consider the demand for creation of a separate home state for the Gorkhas of North Bengal region.
Sangma said that in a letter to Shah that the demand is a long pending constitutional demand and that the Gorkhas are “rightful citizens” of the country and had “contributed immensely to the fabric of the Indian society.
