On expected lines, cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong and Samlin Malngiang resigned from the Assembly today in order to legally change party affiliation, with all three set to join the National People’s Party (NPP).
Dohling and Mawlong are both from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), while Malngiang is from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP).
Dohling and Mawlong make up half of the PDF’s strength in the Assembly as it has four MLAs in the outgoing Assembly.
With Malngiang jumping ship to the NPP and Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar joining the United Democratic Party, the HSPDP’s strength has been reduced to zero.
All three submitted their resignations to Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
