A total of 113 households in five villages under West Jaiñtia Hills district whose homes were damaged by the hailstorm on November 5 will receive relief of Rs 4000 each.
A brief programme was organized today by the office of the Deputy Commissioner to inform the families about the assistance.
Additional Deputy Commissioner HML Kynta informed that the recent hailstorm has affected five villages Iongnoh, Pynthor Lyntein, Muphlang, Mustem, Madan Tyrpait. The relief amount to each of the families will be credited to the account of the beneficiaries through direct online transfer, which amounts to Rs. 4.52 lakh.
Kynta said that the department of Agriculture conducted a detailed survey to assess the damage caused to crops by the hailstorm. She informed that based on the findings, a total of Rs. 12, 40, 150 was allotted as a relief. The assistance is set at Rs 8500 per hectare with adjustment made according to the size of each farmer’s land.
She further informed that this process will take some time, as the distribution requires careful verification.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla highlighted that the primary objective of the programme was to instill hope among the families and farmers and reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing their grievance.
He assured the attendees that the relief funds were allocated based on a thorough assessment of the damage, ensuring fair and equitable distribution. He acknowledged that the relief amount may be less than expected, but it would help in some way or the other to ease their immediate difficulties.
Shylla further urged the district administration to expedite the release of the relief to the beneficiaries, to which it was assured that the process will be completed by the second week of January, 2025.
Namdong BDO P Passah and Thadlaskein BDO Dr. Heimonmi Niang urged the beneficiaries to update their bank accounts and fulfill all necessary requirements as specified by the bank, to avoid delay in receiving the relief amount.
