Shillong, May 27: The Governor of Meghalaya today notified the Meghalaya Regulatory Framework for Private Nursing Institutions.
There has been a large increase in the number of such institutions in Meghalaya in recent years, which has broadened access to nursing education but also raised concerns whether all of the bodies have adequate infrastructure, qualified faculty, etc.
The regulatory framework aims to ensure that all private nursing institutions are up to scratch.
The framework will be regularised and channelised through the Health and Family Welfare Department in coordination with the Meghalaya Nursing Council, affiliating universities and the Indian Nursing Council. A new body called the Meghalaya Nursing Education Regulation Authority (MeNERA) will be constituted as a statutory body to grant approvals, conduct inspections, regulate fee structures, enforce educational standards and ensure placements.
Private nursing institutions will have a checklist to meet that will cover institutional infrastructure, faculty and staffing, clinical facilities, academic processes, student support and welfare and placement and employability.
