Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan has expressed gratitude for donors in the state who are sponsoring tuberculosis patients through their treatment.
Chauhan, who himself is a sponsor (or Nikshay Mitra), today met with the national consultant of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (PMTBMBA), D Dharma Rao, at Raj Bhavan here.
In this meeting, Rao and officials from the state TB Cell – Dr Moami Marak, Dr Amica Rynjah and Barnali) apprised the Governor of the progress of PMTBMBA in Meghalaya.
Nikshay Mitras pledge to support TB patients with nutritional support for a set period of time. Chauhan appreciated the efforts of the 132 registered donors in Meghalaya who are supporting 1,177 TB patients.
The Governor was informed that there are 2,937 tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment across the state. He pointed out that Meghalaya has a relatively low population infected with TB and, if we try harder, he felt that a 100 percent coverage of nutritional support for the TB patients in the state is achievable. Through this meeting, he appealed for more donors to come forward and participate in this noble cause.
Improving the nutritional status of TB patients will result in better treatment outcomes and also reduce discrimination and stigma associated with TB. Nikshay Mitra is an online platform where any donor (individual or organisational) can register themselves and pledge nutritional support for TB patients.
