Shillong, Feb 16: The State government will table the report of the expert committee on the state reservation policy on Wednesday during the ongoing Budget Session of the Meghalaya Assembly.
This was informed by Cabinet Minister Wailadmiki Shylla after a cabinet meeting today.
The committee on the state reservation policy headed by Justice (Retd) M.C. Garg was notified on September 12, 2023 to review the existing reservation policy as existing in the State of Meghalaya. The current framework provides for 40 per cent reservation each for Khasi-Jaintia and Garo communities, 5 per cent for other Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, and 15 per cent for the unreserved category.
Shylla said the cabinet approved the Meghalaya Flood Plain Zoning Bill, 2026 and proposed establishment of a Police Accountability Commission, as per Section 73 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010.
The cabinet also approved the revised estimates for sports infrastructure to host the National Games, which include aquatic and tennis complex, hostel block in Umsawli, Sunny Hill Tura and the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletics Stadium.
