Arts and Culture Minister, Paul Lyngdoh today said the state government will pursue with the long-pending demand for inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
The Meghalaya Assembly had passed a resolution to accord recognition to the two languages of the State but the matter is still being studied by the central government even as the demand keeps on increasing from all quarters.
“This time we have planned to visit Delhi and meet all the concerned authorities, including the Prime Minister in order to push for the demand for the inclusion of Khasi Language,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
Stating that the matter was under the consideration of the MHA and has also gone to Parliament of the country, he said this will be part of the agenda when they visit Delhi, which will happen shortly.
