Shillong, May 17: The Dorbar Shnong of Mawlong Nongtluh has urged the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department to immediately sanction construction of a new building for the Integrated Cattle Development Project (ICDP) Centre in the village, citing years of non-functioning.
Village headman Arbingstone Shylla said the centre, established in 1970, once catered to 20 villages in the Mawlong area but has remained non-functional for several years. There are no staff present, including doctor, field veterinary assistant, bull attendant or chowkidar. The building is dilapidated with a collapsed roof and broken walls.
Farmers are now forced to travel to Nongpoh for basic veterinary care, leading to loss of livestock and income, he added.
The dorbar has demanded immediate funds for a new building, restoration of regular treatment and vaccination services with full staffing and upgrading the centre to a Veterinary Dispensary to meet the area’s growing needs.
