TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale has lodged a written complaint to the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police against Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong for calling him a ‘psycho.’
This comes hours after the state-government owned Meghalayan Age Limited (MAL) filed a criminal defamation suit against the TMC spokesperson for alleging financial irregularities in a an eco-tourism project.
Gokhale sought the complaint to be registered under section 499 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
Tynsong on December 6 had reacted to Gokhale’s accusation of financial irregularities in MAL. He told reporters, “This man (Gokhale) keeps making such allegations about the functioning of the state government… This isn’t the first time but he keeps doing this now and then. I personally feel he has become like a psycho with due respect.”
In the complaint, Gokhale said he is a public figure and has stellar reputation. “By insinuating that the mental state of the undersigned is improper, the accused has committed criminal defamation against the undersigned which is liable for prosecution u/s 499 of the IPC,” he said.
