More ammunition, allegedly belonging to the now deceased commander-in-chief of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Sohan D Shira, was recovered today by East Garo Hills police in a morning raid.
A suspected accomplice of Shira, identified as Crimson M Sangma (33), was arrested after 239 anti-aircraft rounds were recovered from his possession.
According to police sources, Sangma had been on the police’s radar for sometime but had managed to evade them.
A special police team had been set up after police received information on the movement of ammunition through the district.
A naka check at Dobetkolgre, near the district jail, saw the recovery of the ammunition from Sangma. Sangma is a resident of Nabokgre Songmong and has been taken in for questioning.
“We suspect the ammunition to be of the GNLA. A case has been registered and an investigation is currently underway,” said district police chief, Bruno Sangma.
