The Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS) has criticised the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for its failure to complete the construction of storage buildings at Kusimkolgre junction in Williamnagar stating it is not only an eyesore but a testament of mismanagement of public funds.
The organisation said the GHADC has shown its incompetence and negligence as it failed to complete the project started in 2015-2016.
“This deserted building stands conspicuous at the entrance to the East Garo Hills District Capital town, Williamnagar and its view itself forces everyone to have a careful watch while entering into Williamnagar. This deserted building lowers the dignity of Williamnagar town, that it should not have been built in this juncture but it should have been built somewhere outskirt to the town where no guests can easily see it”, GHYS president Endick Marak said in a statement.
He said the storage buildings, which were intended to provide much-needed facilities for local farmers and traders, have been left to ruin due to the GHADC’s lack of commitment and accountability. The incomplete structures have become a symbol of the council’s ineptitude and its failure to deliver basic infrastructure to the people, he added.
“The incomplete storage buildings are not only an eyesore but also a testament to the GHADC’s mismanagement of public funds. The council’s failure to complete the project has resulted in significant financial losses and has denied the local community access to much-needed facilities,” he said.
The GHYS has demanded immediate action and sought a a timeline for completion of the project.
