The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has written to the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs requesting for immediate issuance of certificates and medals of Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak to the brave hearts involved in saving lives during a drowning incident in 2022.
ACHIK the four brave individuals exhibited exceptional courage and selflessness during a drowning incident and went above and beyond the call of duty to save the lives of several passengers, who would have otherwise succumbed to the waters.
The names of four individuals who have been recognised for Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak are Sengrik D. Sangma, Nibath D. Sangma, Wagrik M. Momin and Jinjash D. Marak.
The Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak is a distinguished civilian honour, awarded to those who risk their lives to save others.
“However, it is with great concern and deep disappointment that we must bring to your attention the undue delay in awarding the certificates and medals to these valiant individuals. These four individuals have been officially recognised for their brave act, yet the formal recognition through the certificates and medals has not materialised, despite the passage of over two years since the incident,” ACHIK said.
Stating that as per the notification issued January 30, 2023, their names were included in the list of awardees. ACHIK said that till date, they have not received the honour that they deserve.
“The delay in awarding these brave individuals has not only caused them emotional distress but has also been disheartening to their families and those who witnessed their heroic efforts. The delay in awarding them the certificates and medals sends the wrong message to the public, undermining the values of recognition and encouragement for such acts of bravery,” ACHIK said.
“Recognition plays a crucial role in reinforcing the values that the award represents. By honouring these individuals in a timely manner, the government sends a strong message to society that bravery, altruism, and selflessness will not go unnoticed or unrewarded. On the contrary, the delay in conferring such honour risks creating a sense of apathy, discouraging future acts of heroism,” it added.
