Nongpoh, Nov 28: As part of the ‘100-Day Intensive Action Plan,’ an extensive campaign is underway across the country to eradicate child marriage, FXB India Suraksha has collaborated with various groups for a child-marriage-free in Ri Bhoi District.
The nationwide campaign under the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat initiative has been launched to raise awareness and provide education aimed at ending child marriage. Awareness programmes are being conducted in schools, colleges, places of worship, and villages to ensure that the harmful practice—considered a grave violation of children’s rights—is eliminated.
FXB India Suraksha works in partnership with Just Rights for Children (JRC) in India, a strong network comprising 250 organisations working across 451 districts with the objective of preventing and eventually ending child marriage in the country.
Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal led the awareness programme and stressed the gravity of the issue, stating, “Child marriage is a serious social concern, and every citizen must take responsibility to ensure that it does not occur in this district.”
He emphasised the need for collective efforts to make the district a child-marriage-free district. Additionally, he asserted that through these organisations, awareness will be strengthened to convey that child marriage is a punishable offence, and anyone involved in solemnising or facilitating such marriages will face action under the Child Marriage Act.
