An FIR has been registered with police after fraudsters allegedly targeted hawkers, collecting fees from them in the name of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB).
The SMB’s CEO informed today that information has been received an unknown persons are collecting money with fake receipts bearing the name of the SMB from street vendors and hawkers on the pretext of registration.
Through the CEO’s office, the Town Vending Committee (TVC) is currently conducting registration of hawkers and street vendors as per provisions of the Meghalaya Street Vending (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme 2023.
There is no registration fee associated with this exercise charged by the SMB or TVC, the CEO informed today.
