Four persons were today arrested from South Garo Hills district after they lured and sexually assaulted a minor.
The incident took place at about 10 pm yesterday.
As per reports, the minor girl was called by one of the boys who she knew and asked to come for a ride. When she got into the vehicle with them, she found another three men in the same car after which she was waylaid to a nearby graveyard where they took turns in sexually assaulting her.
After the crime was reported to the police, a doctor at the Williamnagar Civil Hospital, the closest hospital to where the incident took place refused to perform a medical on the medical citing jurisdiction problems. She had to later be taken to Baghmara, more than five hours away for a medical check to be done on her.
Though the four accused managed to give the slip to the police. They were however arrested after a frantic search.
“They fled when they saw the police party approach but were arrested this morning. We have booked them under various sections of the law and under the POCSO Act. The case is currently being investigated,” South Garo Hills SP, Rithuraj Ravi S said.
Meanwhile, confirming the refusal of the Williamnagar Civil Hospital from performing a medical, the SP stated that the matter is being taken up with the health department.
“This is a case of gross injustice to the victims by government doctors. This cannot be allowed to happen,” said Ravi.
Incidentally the current refusal is not the first of its kind with another victim of sexual assault also facing a similar issue two months ago.
