Public Health Engineering Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar today unveiled the foundation stone for the implementation of the central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission water supply project under the Nongpoh Greater Water Supply Scheme today.
The project should benefit 20 villages under Nongpoh census town area. It has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 103 crore.
Other dignitaries present included Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Nongpoh MDC Balajied Rani, senior civil servants and traditional elders.
Speaking on the occasion, Tongkhar said that his department has encouraged the central government to implement the JJM in urban areas; currently it is only applicable to rural areas. The mission aims to provide potable water to every household in India.
