Jowai, Jul 28: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) in West Jaintia Hills has called for patrolling security in Lapangap village, located along the Meghalaya-Assam border.
The union leaders met with Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa today and complained that the villagers are facing constant threats from some individuals from the Karbi community.
The KSU said that since June 25 farmers of Lapangap have been facing repeated obstructions, threats, and disruptions from these individuals while attending to their agricultural fields.
“This ongoing harassment has created fear and insecurity among the farmers, making it extremely difficult for them to carry out cultivation peacefully and with safety,” KSU district president Laitphar Syngkrem said.
Calling for patrolling security the union said police presence will not only restore the confidence of the farmers but also help maintain peace and harmony in the area.
