The SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) cell of the office of the District Election Officer of East Khasi Hills, in collaboration with Meghalaya Model United Nations, launched the ‘Flame of Democracy’ today from the North Shillong constituency.
The flame, mounted on a ‘democracy van’, will emit its light all over the district, touring all constituencies of East Khasi Hills.
The main aim is to disseminate awareness to voters through interactive means that combine music, dance and public participation so as to ensure a high voter turnout on the day of the Assembly election on February 27.
The van will travel through West Shillong, South Shillong and East Shillong tomorrow, Mawsynram on Thursday, Mawphlang and Sohiong on Friday, Shella and Sohra on Saturday, Pynursla on February 20, Mylliem and Iew Smit on February 21, Nongkrem and Mawkynrew on February 22, Mawryngkneng on February 23, Nongthymmai and Umpling on February 24 and Nongmensong, Golflinks and Mawlai on February 25.
