The FKJGP Mawkhar Circle has yesterday provided monetary assistance and edibles to ASHA workers of Wahingdoh, Mawkhar, Wahthapbru, Mission Compound, Umsohsun and Riatsamthiah.
The assistance was provided at a special programme held at Riatsamthiah community hall. Also present were Assistant Rangbah Shnong of Riatsamthiah Donbok Syiemlieh, Riatsamthiah Dorbar Secretary Alphonse Myrthong and Rangbah Dong John W Thabah.
Meanwhile, the Upper Shillong unit of the Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) donated essential commodities to the Mylliem-Upper Shillong Salon & Parlour Association, whose members have been affected by closure of their businesses due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Salons, beauty parlours and hairdressers have all been forced to close by the lockdown measures in East Khasi Hills.
Bantyngshain Kharbudnah, president of the association, said that, unlike in 2020, no assistance has come forth from the government this time around despite the total lockdown, which has been running for weeks.
He urged the government to think about letting them reopen their shops and promised that his members would follow all Covid protocols.
