The FKJGP Mawprem Circle has expressed its strong opposition to the move by the State government to relocate the 342 Harijan families from Sweeper Colony at Them Ïew Mawlong to an area near TB Hospital at Upper Mawprem here.
In a statement issued today, FKJGP Mawprem Circle president Reginald Thabah said the area where the families will be shifted to is already congested and overpopulated.
“The area is known for all kinds of vices and anti-social activities due to its mixed population. The move to bring the Harijans from Sweeper Colony will further cause more problems,” Thabah said.
He also said that FKJGP Mawprem Circle would not allow any attempt by the State government to relocate the Harijan families “since they were always trouble makers” and also since the Dorbar Shnong is also opposed to such a move.
“If the government pays no heed to our plea, we will mobilise public support and fight against such a move. The government will have to take full responsibility for any repercussions,” Thabah warned.
