The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), South West Khasi Hills today met Deputy Commissioner, Caramai Kharkongor to demand life-time compensation for the 3-year old child, who was injured after being electrocuted in Mawkohphet.
Yesterday, the Khasi Student’s Union had written to the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL) chief engineer with the same demand.
Ibapynhun Iawphniaw, a nursery student, had to have both her arms amputated and is still receiving hospital treatment for other injuries incurred in the April 21 incident.
FKJGP district general secretary Balse Kharbani told reporters that besides the life-time compensation, which the child should avail monthly, the organisation had suggested that artificial limbs could be provided free of cost for the child to perform daily activities.
He said the deputy commissioner has assured to take up the case of the child to authorities concerned including the Power Minister.
The organisation further demanded the MePDCL to ensure mandatory security fence of open lying transformers that pose serious threat to the lives of the people.
