A total of 334 candidates have filed their nominations for the February 27 election to the 60-member Assembly in the State.
This was informed by Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor today which is the last day for filing nomination papers.
Out of the total, 342 who filed their nomination papers are male and 37 female candidates.
Among those who filed their nomination papers today included former Meghalaya Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Dr Mukul Sangma. He filed his nomination for the Tikrikilla constituency.
Dr. Sangma had yesterday filed the nomination papers for Songsak constituency.
All 60 sitting MLAs are seeking re-election.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is the president of the NPP, will contest from South Tura constituency in West Garo Hills.
Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh who is the president of UDP is seeking re-election from Mairang constituency in Eastern West Khasi Hills.
Besides, presidents of other political parties are also in the fray for the polls.
Congress state president and Lok Sabha MP Vincent H Pala submitted his papers for election to Sutnga Saipung constituency. This is his first entry into State politics.
State Trinamool Congress president Charles Pyngrope is seeking re-election from Nongthymmai. State BJP president Ernest Mawrie is making an electoral debut from Shillong West.
PDF president Gavin M. Mylliem is seeking re-election from Sohra, Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit is contesting from Nongkrem and HSPDP president K Phlastingwell Pangniang from Rambrai-Jyrngam.
The nomination papers and relevant documents will be scrutinised tomorrow, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 10.
The votes will be counted on March 2.
