An email purportedly from the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) Food Storage Depot (FSD) in Shillong today complained of finding cement in sacks of rice sent to the facility.
The email was directed at a Guwahati FSD serving the North East and was supposedly from the official in charge of the Shillong FSD.
In it, the person complained that cement had been found in the rice sacks. These affected hand-stitched sacks and machine-stitched ones.
Most of the hand-stitched ones contain dust, cement and “foreign materials” mixed in the rice, “which is very difficult for salvaging”. Paperwork is also incomplete, with the exact number of such bags not accurately mentioned in the shipments, the email added.
Even the machine-stitched bags were found to be mixed with cement, the complaint went on to say. “In view of the above, it is requested to kindly look into the matter and to dispatch stocks after proper cleaning from your end.”
