A training programme on integrated fish farming system was organised for farmers of the district by the ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra today in Umiam.
The programme was held under the Technology Demonstration Component of National Innovation on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project which is being implemented by ICAR-KVK at Thadnongiaw Village under Bhoirymbong C& RD Block.
Around 30 farmers from the Thadnongiaw village were present at the event during which 450 numbers of kuroiler breed were distributed to the farmers along with 150kg of poultry feed.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Scientist and Head KVK, Ri Bhoi, Dr M Mokidul Islam, highlighted the initiatives of the Kendra with respect to the project and handed over the three-weeks-old kuroiler chicks to selected farmers of Ri Bhoi.
SMS Fishery Science Bankitkupar Mukhim detailed on the how farmers could gain maximum benefits through integrated fish farming by incorporating different kinds of livestock and crop with fisheries which will minimise the cost of production and maximise profit.
