The Hill Farmers Union (HFU) has called for the reopening of a bridge at Umsiang, Ri-Bhoi, on the border between Meghalaya and Assam, in order to boost trade.
Use of the bridge was restricted as part of the Meghalaya’s move to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“Most of the farmers on the interstate border sell their agricultural produce in Assam and now the farmers are unable to sell their goods as trade has halted because of the bridge closure,” HFU General Secretary Allfondbirth Kharsyntiew said.
