A national awareness campaign on “Efficient and balanced use of fertilizers including Nanofertilizers” was held for farmers of Ri Bhoi today, which was organised by the ICAR, KVK.
Around 30 farmers from four villages in the district participated in the campaign held under Azadika Amrit Mahotsav.
ICAR director, Dr.V.K. Mishra, Director highlighted about the importance of balanced use of fertilisers including nanofertiliser to improve soil health, reduce cost and increase productivity. He explained in details on essential nutrients for crop growth and deficiency of one may cause the reduction of yield.
Further, he said to use balanced and efficient nutrients through nano fertiliser based on soil test and soil health card (SHC) for maximum profit with minimum cost.
KVK, Ri-Bhoi principal scientist and head, Dr.Mokidul Islam, elaborated on different soil testing methods for application of recommended rate of fertilisers to their crops for efficient use for soil fertility and crop productivity enhancement. He stressed on the use of balanced and recommended rate of nutrients for various crops for higher income and nutritional security.
ICAR scientist (Soil Science), Dr. Mahesweta Chakraborty briefed farmers about the role of fertilisers especially nanofertilisers and its application, which helps in improving growth of plants via release of nutrients in a slow rate.
KVK, SMS (Agronomy), Dr. Meghna Sarma, spoke on judicious use of fertiliser using ‘4R’ approach which defines the right time, right source, right rate and right place for nutrients for improving fertiliser used efficiency significantly.
SMS (Horticulture), Dr.UtpalBaruah briefed them about the importance of organic fertiliser with special reference to biofertilizer and its role in crop production.
A video session on emerging technologies adopted for scientific cultivation on nanofertilisers was also held.
