The Jaiñtia Hills Development Society (JHDS) has launched the Facilitating Agricultural Regeneration Measures (FARM Northeast) phase 4 project to be implemented in 12 villages under Laskeiñ and Thadlaskeiñ blocks of West Jaiñtia Hills district.
The main goal of the project is to ensure agriculture based livelihood security for the tribal communities. The aim of the project is to achieve sustainable agriculture through organic farming and preservation of traditional seeds.
Under the phase 4 of the project the JHDS aims to increase millet plantation, promote environmental conservation through mass plantation drives and others.
The function for the launch of the project at Ingkar village yesterday was attended by Thadlaskein Block Development Officer, B. Sungoh, Agriculture Development Officer of Laskeiñ Block, R. Lamare, NABARD AGM Grevile Kharlukhi, JHDS Director Fr. Manbha Pakem besides others.
Speaking on the occasion, Sungoh said the office will extend its support to the society in its endeavour to uplift the lives of farmers.
A talk on the health benefits of millet was also present by retired government Dr. RM Lamare, soil fertility management practices by the Agriculture Development Officer and a testimony of a millet farmer from Samanong village was held on the occasion.
