The Hynñiewtrep Youth Development Council (HYDC) has suggested the Labour Department to extend the minimum wage program to workers in private schools, call centres and hospitals.
The HYDC members met with the Principal Secretary of the department with the suggestion and stressed that workers should receive fair compensation for economic security and well-being.
They said that workers, including teachers, support staff, and healthcare professionals, often face challenges in receiving fair compensation for their work and including them in the minimum wage would ensure that they are being treated fairly and with dignity.
The members were however told that the matter has to be sorted out between the employer and the employees, and if no headway is made such issue could be taken up legally.
