The Hynniewtrep Indigenous Territorial Organisation (HITO) has asked the state government to exempt pregnant women from working as the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic ravages Meghalaya.
In a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today, HITO president Donbok Dhar and general secretary Wanbun N Dkhar that pregnant women are at particular risk from Covid-19 and, out of a sense of responsibility and concern, the pressure group felt the need to urge for an exemption from duty for them during the lockdown, as was the case last year during the first wave. HITO also asked that if any pregnant women contract the disease through their work the government should bear the entire cost of treatment.
