An attempt by the Ri-Bhoi district administration to temper the eviction notice served against non-tribals in Erpakon came to nought today as the dorbar is insistent on the move.
The decision by the village body followed after a non-tribal was arrested on suspicion of murdering a local villager following a drunken argument.
A meeting was held today attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner BL Pakyntein, Assistant Commissioner Eric Kevin Dkhar, Deputy Superintendent of Police PS Marwein, Erpakon headman M Thongni, village secretary Lamborlin Kharshilot, Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Ri-Bhoi President BB Makdoh and others
Kyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait was allegedly killed by an employee of RN Sharma on May 11 identified as Raju Rajbhar.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Thongni acknowledged the district administration’s efforts to maintain peace and harmony but stated that the Dorbar Shnong remains steadfast in its decision to prohibit non-locals from working or running businesses in Erpakon, including Sharma’s hotel.
“No new NOCs (no-objection certificates) or permissions will be granted to non-locals as we cannot predict future consequences following the brutal murder of our resident by a non-local hotel worker,” the headman said.
