A major tragedy was averted after an electricity pole fell close to a bus shed in Golf Club located in Golflink area of the city. The incident took place in the afternoon and disrupted electricity supply in the entire area.
The electric pole almost hit a bolero pickup truck that was passing through the area at that time. No casualties have been reported.
Residents said the electricity pole had worn out from the base, which led to the collapse.
A senior citizen (who requested anonymity) said that the quality of electric poles is beyond bad. He said usually, bad items defeat the purpose they are used for, and this is evident in this case.
He said that the people should not allow use of such poor quality material especially in something as important as power supply.
“One can understand accidents and misfortunes that come our way out of an act of nature, and these come about as a rule and we tolerate such incidents, but in this case, the poor quality of the ET poles is so evident from the gauge that can be seen where it has broken,” he said.
He said that there may have been the possibility of the pickup jeep hitting the pole, but that still does not eliminate the use of the poor quality material.
“I fear our State is going from bad to worse under the present dispensation,” he added.
