The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) today named its first list of eight candidates for the upcoming Meghalaya elections.
PDF president and Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem, general secretary Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang from Mawphlang constituency and Mawkynrew MLA, who is also the cabinet minister in the current MDA government, Banteidor Lyngdoh are among the candidates confirmed to contest the elections.
The others contenders in the list are Shemhok Garod for Raliang constituency, Roswell Shadap for Mawhati, Donlang Sohkhlet for Umsning, Romeo Phira Rani for East Shillong and Eugenestar Kurkalang for Nongkrem constituency.
The PDF has not named a candidate for the Mylliem constituency even as the sitting MLA and cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling has confirmed that he will quit the PDF and switch sides to the National People’s Party (NPP).
The PDF president said, “We cannot stop any sitting legislator from shifting to other party though it does affect the party.” He said the party plans to contest from about 10 to `15 constituencies in the elections.
