Altogether 290 members of the East Jaiñtia Hills Mahila Congress Committee resigned from the party today citing dearth of leaders.
District president, Jhanika Siangshai told reporters that the Congress has been supportive of women in the party but it lacks leadership. She said the party has no candidate to match NPP’s Nehlang Lyngdoh.
Siangshai said they have decided to offer their support to Lyngdoh who will contest from Khliehriat for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The mahila leaders who resigned included vice president, Shimika Sungoh and Blitmon Siangshai, treasurer Damanbha Swer, general secretary, Jenita Mukhim, Pynsuk Kharbudon, Gita Sona, Pretty Jyrwa, Gracebidel Rymbai, Darisha Ryngkhlem and 280 members, who are set to join the NPP.
