Shillong, Sep 25: Police arrested eight men for allegedly looting two shops in Adingre and Sadolpara villages and assaulting shop owners.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma said the gang of dacoits had looted two shops of Rs 6000 and Rs 68,000 besides several items on September 11. The shop owners were also assaulted causing injuries and their mobile phones were forcibly taken away.
The accused were arrested from different locations within the district. They are Paul B Marak (27) of Aigre Apal, Rajiv B. Marak alias Lakingsbirth (30) of Bollongre, Silwen Ch Sangma (31) of Dilsigre, Rebellious A Sangma alias Klen (37) of Rengsangre, Jakbrash Jakson R Marak (25) of Balsatgre, Tengseng alias Tatlu R. Marak (20) of Rongjregre, Bethani R Marak (25) of Chambalgre and Sillieng B. Sangma (28) of Dabonggre.
A motorcycle used in the commission of the crime and mobile phones taken away from the shopkeepers, were also recovered from the possession of the arrested accused persons, Sangma said.
