The Education Department will recruit lower primary teachers who have passed the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) to fill more than 1,200 posts, Education Minister Rakkam Sangma informed today.
The notification will be advertised on July 14. The MTET exam was last conducted in 2021 and since then no recruitment has taken place. In recent months, MTET-passed candidates urged the government to fill vacancies as they have been without work for two years.
The government had at the time decided to hire temporary teachers but the MTET-passed candidates refused to accept the stopgap measure.
Sangma informed that the government hopes to complete the recruitment process by August 15.
“Even though we know that the process is long, we will try to wrap it up in less than two months,” Sangma said.
