The Election Commission of India has exercised its power under the Representation of the People Act 1951 to order that from 7am on Thursday to 7pm on February 27, no exit polls are to be published, publicised or conducted with regard to the Assembly election.
February 27 is the date of the state election.
The ban applies to print or electronic media or to the dissemination in any other manner whatsoever.
Meanwhile, it was further clarified in a release today that the display of any election matter, including the results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media, will be prohibited during the period of 48 hours after the conclusion of the election.
